I would not necessarily trust the fan shroud or flywheel - or even crankcase- to determine what the engine size is.
You'll need to look at the cylinder castings. A trail with a would have been an earlier model as they went with the for many years - until switching yet again to the The only thing I'd be much concerned about is using matching case halves to start. I've put a number of these older fan engines together without worrying about the crankcase component origins. Use the parts you have which are in the best condition and make sure electrical, fuel, and clutch are right and you should be good. People here will help you with specific specs if you needs them. Pop and Whiskey, Was hoping you could help me as well. I'm helping my Dad fix what we think is a Polaris Indy However it's a bit of a frankinmobile and were not sure. It needs a new Ignition Coil but I'm not positive what engine I have. The engine code is EC40PL Do you folks know of a website that I could look up the engine so I know what parts to purchase for it?
Finding out what model polaris I have. - Snowmobile Forum: Your #1 Snowmobile Forum
Thanks in advance! Derek from Detroit. Beaumod is offline. You have a cc liquid cooled engine used in the Indy You don't have enough information for the year although for most engine parts that is not really that important.
Do you have a serial number on that engine? A couple of the nice things about some of those older engines is that they used some of the same parts on various machines. If it is the exciter coil you need, it is likely the same as the one also used on the liquids and perhaps some of the others. I suspect some of the old CDIs may cross-over.
Unfortunately, many of the CDIs which are getting close to 20 years old and older are no longer listed as available. Consequently, some of the typical Polaris fiches don't show the part number.
Thanks Pops and Whiskey, I'll see if we can find the serial number, I'm guessing you know exactly where to look for it? Thanks again for all your help. I'll post a note when complete. Regards, Derek from Detroit. The CDI is listed under Magneto as part no. Interestingly though it is only shown under the and model years. I am sure it is the same one as for your sled though.
